Posters

We are now going to do research into posters so we can get an idea of the structure of a poster and the information that posters provide to the public about different events and products.
  • Many of the posters we've already looked at are all generally that same size and shape so when doing our own poster we are going to have to measure or find out the normal size of posters and use it to make sure our poster is the same size.

  • The location in which these posters are displayed are within tube station on wall as you come of the train and on walls as you go up the escalators.

  • We noticed that depending on the place the poster is placed the bigger it is for example when you come of the train there is a lot of space on wall for these posters to be displayed whereas when going up the escalators there more of an A4 size on electronic screens so they stand out and can be easily be read.

  • This gives us an idea of the kind of places we need to consider displaying our poster for our age group to see for example in local train stations in the area.

Background research on posters

  • Any piece of printed design that can be attached to a wall or vertical surface

  • Posters include: textual and graphic elements or sometimes just one

  • They are designed to be eye catching and to convey information

  • posters are designed as a tool of advertising for events, music, artists films

  • They are generally low cost which is a good advantage for us as we can produce as much as we want

  • Poster have been out for over 200 years, displayed in public place all over the world and should be visually striking to maintain audiences attention

  • There are many different types of posters such as: propaganda and political posters, Advertising, film comic book posters, railway, events, boxing and concert.
  • Our newspaper would fall into the advertising category as we want to promote our newspapers to teenagers and to do this we have to advertise and show why our newspaper is offering to the younger generation.

We did research of our own and went out and took 4 photos of posters that are on display today show we could see what styles and conventions they use and whether there is a different in a poster depending on exactly what its advertising.

Poster 1:

This is a poster we found in a train station, we believed this is good one to analyse as it is very big, lacks information but still portrays an important message to the public.
  • At the top of the poster there is a banner music inspired art" which show the public that the poster has a bit of everything such as music, art and drink which many audiences will be interested in which show that this is a good advertising point a s it is not just aimed at one group of individuals but many.
  • "becks" this word has been used in bold to highlight the poster has something to do with alcohol but the word is also presented in a logo which is used purposely as they know those who drink which recognise what the sign stands for.

  • The poster doesn't have proper picture on it but instead paint marks which give the poster a graffiti style and feel which makes it informal, the producers of this poster obviously know that the message there trying to portray may not be understood by all audience so they clearly stated behind various painting what each stand for.

  • There is a website at the bottom of the poster written in black which may be because the background of the poster is white so it adds effect. using there website link is a good way to get members of the public interested involved as its showing them that there is the use of technology that goes with the poster and also they know that many people in the 21 century have access to the Internet.

  • the poster sends out an important message to the public about racism "hate racism" showing that it is something that should not be encouraged but destroyed and instead replaces it with a more happier feel of music" love music"

  • The use of different colours stand out such as yellow and black to make it more attractive

  • This poster is generally promoting and advertising the drink becks as they may want to get a bigger percentage of people in the UK buying there drink. Although this is the main thing there trying to do they also say in a polite tone please drink responsibly which shows they care and also provide a website address about drink awareness.

Poster 2

This is one of the smaller poster we found which was situated on the escalators leading to the tube.

  • The first thing we noticed about this poster is that it is aimed at a young audience and families, this was highlighted to us thought the use of bright colours such as golden, yellow and pink which really stand out and captures your attention. there is also the use of very popular cartoon characters which children can related to and which parents will be aware of a may want to treat there children. This method of advertising will increases profits for the show because the poster looks exciting

  • In bold black they have used the head line "BRILLIANT we nearly died laughing" as it give readers peoples personal opinion which may influence them to want to see the show for themselves. Brilliant is in capital letter for advertising reasons to place emphasis on who great the show actually is.

  • There is the consistent use of bright pink star rating at the top of the poster with the paper of radio which subscribes this particular rating. They made sure they used 5 star nearly all the way through to show people how good other have found the production and then minimised it to 4 stars so it doesn't look too prefect.
  • The poster is very friendly and invite and gives of the message of fun and laughter.

  • A banner has been used horizontally across the bottom of the poster in bright yellow so it stands out, it has a title in bold going across the top so people know what the shows calls. they have included information about booking to inform people that there is still time to book tickets.

  • The theatre name is in bold Which again is to inform the audience of where it is and also a website address so people can find out extra information. They may have used a website address instead of a phone number as they know people will be moving and will be easier to remember an address rather than a number.
  • This post isn't very big but a medium size which may be to do with its location or just to get straight to the point.

Poster 3

This poster is another theatre advertisement displaying information about the concert itself but is less detailed only providing minimal facts and the majority pictures.
  • They've used a dark background colours at the top end of the poster and provided light colours on top so the text and the title stands out.

  • Statements are used in to open up the poster in capital letter then an exclamation mark to show its important. " The rock theatrical phenomenon" will immediately advertises that it to do with the theatre and how amazing watching it Will be.

  • A big bold tile has be used to entertain readers and make the poster moire exciting withing this they have included a picture within the letter o of a rock star to again maintain the rock theme throughout.

  • The background picture is a concert full of people where the audience is in an orange colour so the poster look attractive an to highlight a exciting feeling.

  • Other methods of advertisements have been used as they have used a form of popular technological device an ipod which many people have today which may be another way of attracting their attention.

  • They have included a caption of what theatre it is and a website address to inform people of where they can find information

  • This poster is of a bigger size due to the location its in which provides more space.

Poster 4

This is a cinema advertisements and is much different from many of the other posters we have analysed and seen there is much more detailed use of words as the language is more long.
  • There is a big captivating picture for the background of this poster and is related to a picture in the actual movie so people will recognise it when walking past.
  • Quotes have been used of how good people have felt the film was which is a good advertising point.
  • Attractive colours have been used such a crystal blue which give the poster a magical feel as the film is a fantasy
  • The name of the film is in bright yellow to stand out on the dark background
  • they've included when the film is out to inform people which many poster do.
