before producing our article we had to acknowledge that young people/ teenagers don't read newspapers today so had to really come to grip with producing entertaining exciting story that they would be interested in reading and that would encourage them to actually pick up our newspaper
Development and construction of my newspaper
(Click on image to view)This is how my newspaper firstly looked once i had started putting in where my pictures, text and lines were going to be. As we are keeping the structure of are newspapers the same it was decided to have each section separated by lines so everything was clear and readable.
Colour scheme:
The main Colours throughout my newspaper is pink because of this choice of colour, i wanted to make sure my lines therefore match my masthead and this is why i decided to have three pink lines on the front page. The first line i placed under my masthead, the second separating my main article from my sub articles at the side and the third line separating the advertisement from the main article and sub articles. Doing this ensured that there was a good use of the convention gutters which all newspapers use so there are spaces between the each object and text this ensures that the layout was consistent and spaced out. Which from the print screen of my front page looks very professional.
Masthead, Date and Web address:
We have our slogan 'your local youth newspaper' placed just on top of our masthead in black to contrast from a light to dark colour and so teenagers can see its a youth newspaper only targeted at them. We have also included Vertically the date of our newspaper and our website address which we identified in our research as a common convention used in all newspapers so i knew it was a necessity that had to be include in both my newspaper and Korris's.
Sub Articles and Main Article:
The left hand side is the first place people read when looking at any written text which is why we changed the font making it more informal. I decided on having topics which were different colours to make my newspaper more young and vibrant. So we therefore went down the route of writing about issues to suit all teenager audiences: 'news, sport, showbiz and culture' and also included a picture within this section to keep it interesting. The article on my front page was going to be about clubbing where i was going to do a short articles on the latest events that have been of interesting teenagers and why it is known to be one of the best night clubs bin our local area. I Placed a horizontal box underneath the text to illustrate where i was going to put my picture of the club.
This was my second example of the progress i made from my first draft. On this draft i think it really shows how much i have grown and developed compared to the first draft i made. This page is now how i want my front page to look and all i need to do is experiment with my pictures to see which ones look best and maybe move things around if necessary.
This is the first draft of my second page as i already had produced my articles on Microsoft word so all i had to do was copy and paste them onto photoshop in the right place which meant i had to fiddle around a bit. To maintain the informal feel of our newspaper from the front page, i put the flava logo on the left hand side with our slogan on the top and a separate column at the side where i decided i wanted to include an editorial, contents and also things that are happening in the media today such as showbiz gossip such as the x factor which teenager are interested in.
(Click on image to view)On this draft i have added my title ' editorial, what hot' and showbiz news' and now have to mess around with colours to make it stand out and also add more pictures and finish writing. For the editorial section i am going to write about what our newspaper is about .
For my editorial i have chosen to introduce what my newspaper is trying to highlight which is a young fun vibrant and gossip and have portrayed this in an informal way to my readers by writing Hi i also included a box above this for a picture so they know who exactly is writing there newspapers each week, The colour of this headline was pink as i thought after playing around with other colours this one looked the best and suited the original feel of my newspaper.
The only addition made to this page was adding my name under the editorial section (Sarah - editor) as when i looked at other editorial there names had been placed underneath so readers are aware of who you are.

Newspaper Article research
Researching into other newspaper will allow me to get an idea of how my own articles should be structured and laid out also the different types of stories
I should write about so they will be interested in purchasing a weekly paper.
Cover story:
For my cover story i decided to based it around a interesting topic that would really entertain young people so i decided to go down a knife Crime and youth deviancy route. To ensure my cover story read like any normal newspaper article i decided to do background research on previous articles that have been written by newspapers such as The Sun and The News of the World.
What I found out:
I found out information about knife crime by actually reading previous articles and researching knife and youth crime on google for facts and figures and found many useful heading and sentences that i could use in my own way to form my own article such as
- Gang members are bonded by macho street codes
- The reputation of Young boys today is gained through violence and is one of the many reasons why it is on the rise as boy just act violently to look good
- Gaining respect has to be answered with brutal retaliation between gang members or loos of face where they are no longer respected showing that to be in a gang one should live up to its expectations
- Many of the fights these boys ave are normally because of personal reasons e.g about a girlfriend, being in another territory, family.
- Gang members get so caught up in gangs that it becomes a lifestyles that they can't get out of so therefore would go to prison for each other or even be killed as a gang is about manhood and honour
- After gang violence or knife crime takes place trails of blood are left at the scenes of the crime
- Young boys are often caught up in gang culture where they have argument which get out of hand
- Facts and figure wise it has been established that 7% of teenagers say they belong to gangs and twelve to twenty five year old are responsible for 89% of violence that happens.
After carrying out this research it allowed me to use the information i gather and create a cover story out of it as i now had a better understanding of why there were gangs. from the information i gather i was able to make up a title of my article 'blood trail reveal all as feud spiral out of control' and thought an issues like this would be best suited on the from page as its very eye catching and serious.
Inside stories
On my second page i consider doing a Short article on the Apple i phone as it is a topic that young people will definitely be able to relate to and also because to days technology is so influential on society. i again did research on the apple i phone so i could get and idea of what was so good about it and what it offers that would be so beneficial and worth will to teenagers.
What i found out:When doing my research into this product i wanted to only look for things about the i phone that would interest teenagers so they would be really interested when reading and if not yet go and buy one to see for themselves how good it is.
- Loads web pages
- Takes picture faster than any other mobile technology create before
- Voice control so its time efficient as it acts on people commands
- It makes it entire i phone experience much more responsive
- Allow people to record videos but then to also edit them
- Connect people to other form of technology such as the Internet so young people would therefore benefit from the likes of face book, email, you tube, ipod and a cover flow
- Can access what ever you want as it is at the touch of your finger tips
This information will allow me to go on a write a article review about the i phones benefits to teenagers, another inside story i am considering doing is about local Night clubs in the area as it will be topics which the majority of teenagers can relate to being a very popular club many young people go to in the area.
